The A Team’s Secret Sauce for a Safely Apart, Virtually Connected Workplace
The last couple of years have been a challenge for the heartiest of souls, our Team has harnessed resiliency, flexibility, and humor to stay positive and productive, both personally and professionally. Our combination of hiring awesome people and focusing on workplace culture helps to keep our Team connected and motivated even in tough times.
Here are some ways we have found to rise above the challenges:
ZOOMED-Out? A Virtually Connected Workplace
Focus on making ZOOM meetings fun AND productive, something your team can look forward to instead of dread!
Every Tuesday at The A Team, it’s all hands-on deck for a quick company update and a short business learning session on a topic of interest chosen, and often led, by Team members. No boring meetings with strangers droning on – we keep it real and relevant by including our Team in the planning and execution.
On Fridays, it’s a “no business allowed” Team luncheon led by employees on a topic they chose. We have enjoyed sharing recipes, learning about everyone’s “go-to” gadget, and talking about favorite movies. The Friday before Halloween was especially fun as we celebrated with a costume party for employees and their families, best costume prizes included!
Burned-Out?
Working from home has morphed into “Sleeping from Work” with the workday bleeding into evenings and weekends. Couple that with COVID fatigue, lessened daylight and harsher weather that allows fewer opportunities to get outside, and burnout becomes a real problem.
To address these issues, every Monday evening The A Team offers a virtual ‘Team Work Out’ led by a certified personal trainer and has also instituted all-Team days off to extend holiday weeks and weekends. The office officially closes, and employees get a well-deserved and much needed extended break.
Work Out & Eat In!
Here are some more ways individual A Team members de-stress:
Our EVP & Chief Legal Officer Debra Phillipes keeps her recumbent bike neatly tucked under her home office desk so she can stay fit and burn calories while working on her computer.
Senior Staff Accountant Erica Moran never misses a Monday workout, noting “It helps me set the tone for the week ahead and stay motivated to be active throughout the week. Every workout is different and it’s a great way to stay accountable – especially when the CEO is there every time!”
And Controller Kevin Tseng has been polishing his culinary skills: “I’ve been learning new recipes, and I consider it self-care to whip up new, delicious dishes each night, with enough extra for lunch the next day, of course. So far, I’ve gotten pretty good at making pizza, beef noodle soup, and no-knead bread!”
